No strength saturdays – Sat 8.20.16
In the Compound’s programming, there is no Strength on Saturday. Don’t get suckered into the “more is better” or “I’ll rest when I die” mentality. The gym’s program is laid out so that you get the optimal dosage to increase Strength and Power. If you throw in extra strength training you may inhibit your own strength gains!
Saturdays are the day we try to push the limits of our conditioning, go a little bit longer on the WOD, and let your body rest a little bit more from pushing heavy all week long.
That doesn’t mean you can’t do accessory work from time to time. There is merit in adding some accessory work to your training. The Compound sometimes programs “cash outs” for this, but for the most part, everyone is different and should focus on different things.
You need to be a responsible and use common sense. If you have a weak trunk and need to strengthen it, do some extra trunk work (isometric holds, back extension, abs, etc.). If your triceps are weak, do some tricep work. Throw this in after the Strength and Conditioning WODs. But don’t make this the focal point of your training.
